JdF Preparations/ASTEP II Issues

DWSM

• Ti housing discussion.  Doug sent note outlining where he thought this issue fell on the importance scale.  Although a year-long deployment was promised in ASTEP II, it may be so cost-prohibitive (due to many other things besides the DWSM bell-housings), that we fall-back to shorter deployments.  Must talk to Doug more about this and perhaps get other opinions on experience with long-term operations.
• Temperature Sensor on Wand.  Bill thinks it has a very linear response and decision is to wait until Doug returns and has more wand completed before end-to-end testing of the temp sensor.
• Just on track for an April 25 DWSM build.  Doug has assembled many of the parts nec for testing bag/switch subassemblies before rebuilding.
• Teresa working on shipping dates/logistics; our contact with this is Bill U.

WHOI Deployment

• Scott has accelerometer working; It will record Accel at 10hz for ~9min then spend ~1min writing results to flash.  Much thanks to Scott for the 1-wk turnaround, getting the job last Thursday and completing the build/checkout by today.
• Scott leaves Saturday and will be gone tomorrow (Friday) for packing.
• Some discussion about the wrong o-ring groove in the clamps of ESP-Chris.  Why? Is it a drawing or manufacturing issue?  Scott tasked with checking this out, and providing info to WHOI on how they should proceed.  Do we fix ESP-Chris, or is there chance we will be flipping ESP-Bruce to do another 45 days?

G3

• We have contracted Airflow Sciences to perform CFD analysis on a 10.5' LRAUV vehicle with enough data for Rob M. to calculate stability and fin area's for this larger vehicle.  Should have results in ~2 weeks.   This would give us a 3' payload space if the increased drag of a longer vehicle is acceptable to LRAUV team.

ESP Drifter

• Cruise is Sept 6-21.  Phone conference immediately following this meeting with Matt Church and group at UH to discuss preliminaries of the cruise.  Gene handling logistics once we get instrument to HI.  Teresa has given Jim some container/van info for the transit across the Pacific. 
• Brent working on Drifter comms.
• Discussion initiated by Scott that, with the addition of adaptive sampling code, we need (even more) to cordon-off ESP brains from mooring control.  Perhaps the board Brent is working on as a mooring controller for Drifter could become the ESP standard, taking over adaptive sampling chores as well as contextual sensor coordination, while leaving the ESP to do only one thing.  This idea is gaining traction; we will look into what other mooring controllers have been developed at MBARI, and/or if there are other S.E. to help with this to not put another log on Brent.
